Both machines come with portable chargers. The JCB 19C-1E plugs into a standard 120V household outlet — no special equipment needed. Overnight charging covers a full day of work. The Case 580EV uses a standard EV connection, and comes with with a charger that can plug into any standard 240V outlet. We're happy to do a pre-rental charging walkthrough to identify the simplest solution for your site. Both machines can also charge from a generator or temporary power service on sites without permanent power.

Yes. Both machines are designed for a full 8-hour shift on a single charge. Think of it like a tank of diesel — charge overnight, work all day. Runtime will vary with workload intensity, just as diesel burns faster under heavy continuous load, but for the excavation, grading, and site prep work our customers actually do, one charge covers one shift. And no fuel burn for idling equipment.

No. Both machines are engineered to operate identically to their diesel counterparts — same controls, same feel, same hydraulic workflow. The electric motor drives the hydraulic pump, so everything the operator touches works exactly like a diesel. The only differences they'll notice: it's quieter, and there's no warm-up time. No retraining, no adjustment period, no lost productivity on day one.

Electric excels at the kind of work most contractors in this region actually do: excavation, grading, drainage, backfill, material handling, and site prep on projects that run in single shifts. Vineyard development, residential construction, utility work, cave excavation, and CARB-mandated job sites are all ideal fits.

Where diesel still has the edge is sustained heavy earthmoving — large cut-and-fill operations running multiple shifts per day where the machine never stops long enough to recharge. We're straightforward about that. If your job fits that profile, electric may not be the right tool. But for the broad middle of the market — contractors who need reliable, quiet, compliant machines for day-in, day-out work — electric isn't just adequate, it's the better choice.

Yes — and this is one of its best use cases. The JCB 19C-1E was designed for underground and enclosed-space work. Zero exhaust means no ventilation surcharge, no air monitoring requirement, and no work stoppages for air quality. At approximately 8' tall with tracks that retract to just 36" wide, it fits standard wine cave portal dimensions. The Case 580EV handles all surface portal and spoil work above grade.

New customers can do a one-time one-week intro rental to get familiar with the equipment before committing. After that, our standard minimum is four weeks (one month). We prefer — and can offer better rates on — extended terms of 3–12 months. Lease-to-own is also available for contractors ready to add electric equipment to their own fleet. Pricing is structured to match diesel rental rates; you're not paying a premium for electric.
